A Month in Review: June

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m excited to share what I’ve been up to in June!

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I have been sending out blog-like emails to my mailing list subscribers, sharing some of my favorite projects and events I had going on over the past month. Now I will be posting my “Month in Review” here on the blog, as well as any other fun stories/tid bits I decided to share. If you haven’t joined my mailing list, click here to do so and you’ll be the first to know about upcoming blog posts, events, sales, and any other news that pops up. If you are already on my mailing list, thanks for following me here! I will no longer be sending out full emails with my “Month in Review,” instead I will send you an email directing you here to my blog once it’s posted.

Okay, now onto the fun stuff!

This month was unique in that I didn’t take on ANY custom orders. I used the extra time to get re-inspired and what a lovely time it has been! Here is some of what I have been working on:

I’ve been really inspired by some other artists I follow on social media who are basically wizards at using different effects with Procreate (the app I use to letter digitally on my iPad Pro), so I wanted to learn some of these new techniques, using color, shading, blending, and other effects to take my lettering to a whole new level. I am still a sucker for a simple black and white composition, but I often find myself craving more of a challenge and color has been an intimidating beast I am timidly approaching… yet with determination! Below are some of the pieces I created, trying out some of these new, adventurous techniques:

Lettering my way through Romans

Jesus has been my number one source of inspiration throughout my entire lettering journey. My lettering love began in prayer journals before I ever created my lettering business, or even knew that hand lettering would become such a deep passion that I would want to pursue professionally.

Over the past five years of following Jesus Christ, I have ventured far off the journaling pages – onto marker paper, watercolor paper, canvases, digital mediums like the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro… it has been an exciting, educational, and life-giving journey. However, things have a way of coming full circle and a couple weeks ago, I decided to start a new project that has rekindled my love for lettering as a way of journaling and studying the Bible.

I decided I would use my refined hand lettering and modern calligraphy skills as a way of studying a book in the Bible and the morning I decided to do so, Romans was on the mind. So, I began with Romans 1 and since then have been working my way through the entire book.

This project has inspired and excited me more than I ever could have imagined. It has been creatively and spiritually satisfying. I have also received so many comments, messages, and suggestions on social media and through people I run into, that they are also very inspired by this project and would like copies of these pages. So, you’re hearing it here first: I am researching ways to get these pages printed in a book with some of the insights I have included behind each chapter on my Instagram and Facebook page. I am very determined to make this happen, but nothing is official just yet. I will for sure be digitizing my lettering of Romans 8, to be blown up in various sizes to be printed. So, stay tuned for more info regarding this project. Until then, here are a couple more pages from my journal:

If you made it to the end, thank you for taking the time to read all that! I’m thankful to know people like you are inspired by my work and are interested in the details of this ever evolving hand lettering and modern calligraphy journey I’m on. Please feel free to comment or send me a message! Let me know what you’d like to see more of or hear more about. I want to start a conversation and create a community of letterers and admirers who are inspired by this expression of creativity.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

❤ Lauren
